Treatment
Botox® is a natural purified protein that is extracted from a bacteria and then made into a medicine. Nerve impulses (from a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine) to the injected muscles are blocked, decreasing the muscle activity that causes lines to form in the face and neck. It is a quick, non-surgical treatment for women and men that will reduce or eliminate the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead creases, upper lip wrinkles as well as bands around the neck area.
The quick treatment consists of several, tiny injections and is administered in small doses. The injected muscle is the only affected area. The effect lasts 3-4 months; longer after repeated treatments. Your facial expressions will not be altered as the treatment only relaxes the muscle beneath the injection line; creating natural-looking results. Dr. Dhillon will work with the aesthetics of your teeth and veneers in order to create the proper lip and smile lines. Look younger, feel more confident and smile more brightly!

STATIC VERSUS DYNAMIC WRINKLES
Static wrinkles are caused by a loss of elasticity in the skin due to aging and environmental factors such as sun exposure or smoking. These types of wrinkles are best treated by dermal fillers.
Dynamic wrinkles are caused by repeated muscular contractions or facial expressions. In fact, some of these wrinkles, like worry lines, frown lines or laugh lines, are often named after facial expressions. When you’re young, your skin is more elastic and the lines easily bounce back to a normal, wrinkle-free look. But as you age, these lines become permanent fixtures on your face.
If the wrinkle is not caused by muscular contractions, a Botox® for wrinkles treatment will not be effective and another treatment option should be considered.

Dr. Nick Seddon and Dr. Tina Dhillon are able to provide Botox® treatments in order to treat excessive sweating, muscle spasms and reduce migraines.
HOW DOES BOTOX® WORK?
Botox Cosmetic® targets dynamic wrinkles which are caused by repeated muscular contractions, such as frowning and squinting. Botox Cosmetic® is an injectable treatment derived from a purified protein.
With Botox® injections, muscles around these areas are paralyzed, providing less movement. With lesser movements, the skin will not get folded or crumpled, and as a result of that, no line marks will be formed. This gives the face a more relaxed and refreshed appearance.
Regular use of this simple treatment will soften expression lines and help to ‘stop the clock’ on the development or further deepening of lines. In addition, treatment is so quick and easy that it can often be done at your regular hygiene maintenance visit.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?
Side effects are very rare and are not permanent. Possible side effects are tenderness at the injections sight, small bruising, and short-term headache. If any adverse events occur it will be in the first week and will usually go away in 7-10 days.
Some patients experience temporary weakness in the group of muscles being treated. For example, ptosis (drooping eyelid) can develop after treating blepharospasm (abnormal contraction or twitch of the eyelid). Flu-like symptoms develop in some, but rarely.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT EXPERIENCE LIKE?
Procedures take approximately 10-15 minutes. Full results take up to 14 days after treatment.
HOW LONG WILL A BOTOX® TREATMENT LAST?
On average, the cosmetic effects will gradually wear off after 3-4 months but will last longer with repeated treatments.
IS IT SAFE?
Botox® has been thoroughly researched (more than 4,000 studies) & clinically used for over 20 years and is approved by both the HPB (Health Protection Branch of Canada) and the FDA. More than 20 million procedures have been performed since 2001.
