Veneers are a great way for one to obtain that perfect, natural-looking smile without the need for braces or implants. There are two types of veneers: composite and porcelain. Porcelain veneers are less likely to stain and last longer than composite veneers.
Why Should I Get Veneers?
There are several reasons to get veneers. They are a quick way to have a smile that is brighter and straighter. Teeth that are discoloured, fractured or worn down can also be repaired this way. Teeth that are too small or out of position may be fixed with veneers. Veneers can also correct diastemas (spaces), misshapen, stained or crooked teeth.
Our west van dentist, Dr. Tina will ensure to conserve tooth structure as much as possible and will only remove enamel from teeth if necessary – sometimes a veneer can be done without even removing any tooth structure! After the first appointment, our patients will receive temporary acrylic veneers which will look identical to the finished veneers. The laboratory will use the impressions taken by Dr. Tina to make the final finished porcelain veneers.
How Should I Care For My Veneers?
Now that you have the smiles of your dreams, there are a few precautions you should take with your new veneers.
- Make sure not to eat any foods or candy that may cause the veneers to chip or crack
- Brush your teeth with a soft or ultra-soft toothbrush and brush lightly in circular motions for 2 minutes
- Use a non-whitening toothpaste twice a day when brushing
- Floss daily
- Wear your night guard every night
- Ensure that you visit Dr. Seddon every 6 months for your recare exam
Some things you should not do after you get the smile of the your dreams is to grind or clench your teeth. Do not eat hard candy or foods and do not bite your fingernails or paperclips. Lastly, do not open any packages or bottles with your new porcelain veneers as that may cause them to twist and loosen.
